"SDS Facts" #1: Tissue oriented Tulip Design
24.10.2025 · 6 min

SDS are tissue level implants.1-3 The tulip form features an
anatomically natural-looking design that supports the cortical
bone and prevents atrophy after immediate implantation.3-16 Its 3 mm long transgingival part simplifies the management
of soft tissue, whereas the coronal part serves as a restoration
platform, preventing microgaps and bacterial penetration.4-9
The combination of the SDS tulip form with zirconia enhances
the soft tissue seal and prevents the risk of peri-implantitis.15-21

Clinical Advantages for Surgeons
The tulip design, mimicking the nature of a natural tooth, has a transgingival part that provides a convenient treatment
management with the following advantages:
• Time saving thanks to one-stage treatment, eliminating the need for a second surgery11-13
• Less tissue recession4,8,16,17
• Improved aesthetics11,16,34
• Easier accessibility allowing profound cleaning15,20,37
• Simplified restorative process (see the Prepable fact sheet)4,11
• Better long-term maintenance33-37
• Recommended by global guidelines due to proven long-term success and survival rate1,2,36
• Less marginal bone loss compared to bone level implants4,11

Comparison to competitors
Compared to bone-level implants, tissue-level implants offer time-optimized implantation and easier maintenance thanks
to their supra-gingival interface, leading to fewer complications, preventing peri-implantitis, and minimizing follow-up
appointments.
Compared to other tissue-level ceramic implants, SDS has a vertical height of 3 mm, which can be prepared without
impairing the implant diameter. This enables immediate protocols, ensures excellent aesthetic results, and helps prevent
peri-implantitis.
